A body has been found in the water near the busy Prince of Wales Pier in Falmouth. Initially thought to be a woman, the body of a man of undisclosed age and identity was pulled from the water just before 3pm on Monday.

Falmouth Coastguard informed The Falmouth Anchor that the police, coastguard, ambulance and RNLI attended upon hearing reports of a body in the water near the Greenbank hotel.

The body was retrieved by inland lifeboats and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, then was taken to Treliske Hospital for examination.

The police have said they believe they have found the identity of the man, but he has not been formally identified. They are now trying to trace his family.

There has been, as yet, no public identification of the deceased and both police and RNLI services were unavailable for comment.

A coastguard spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman at this sad time.”
