You have London, you also have Milan, Paris and New York; however, now there is something completely new to the fashion calendar. Los Angeles will be the first city to host a Vegan Fashion Week, quite fitting considering that L.A.in September 2018 was the first state in the United States of America to ban fur.

The four-day event aims to end exploitation of animals in the industry of fashion by educating the attendees and the world of fashion, the ethical, environmental and social issues surrounding animal welfare in the industry of fashion.

Founder of Vegan Fashion Week, Emmanuelle Reinda, comments: “I want to ignite conversations and debates within the industry by educating, elevating and drawing connections between our most important values: our respect for human life, animal rights, and the environment.”

The aim of Vegan Fashion Week is to relocate the event each year to other fashion-forward cities around the world to make it equal to the other heavy-weights of fashion weeks.

As Vegan Fashion Week begins its climb for success, there are designers who have kicked out the fur from their collections. British fashion designer Stella McCartney has been pioneering in sustainable fashion and aiming to reduce environmental waste. Becoming one of the first designers to make eco-friendly fashionable pieces.

A not so familiar face to some however, Parme Marin is a social and eco-conscious fashion brand. The fashion brand focuses on sourcing natural materials, minimising environmental waste and creating reusable packaging. Producing collection stemming an aesthetic that is of raw richness of Marrakech and the simplicity of New York.

Another relative newcomer to the faux fur game Miranda Dunn offers custom faux pieces in a variety colours and sizes. The products can be ordered both plain or monogrammed with initials or a design. Each product is made to order and by hand.

Vegan Fashion Week is a celebratory event that increases awareness on the on-going development within the fashion industry. It is designed to explore the opportunities that are present in fashion; we all need to join the conversation and develop a new story of what fashion can be.
