Having traveled down the day prior to the West Midlands tournament, we woke feeling fresh and ready for our second tournament as a new team. Everyone had gained some serious confidence from the last trip to Bristol, so we came to Birmingham looking strong.

This was a much bigger tournament made up of 16 teams, split into four groups of four with a real mix of teams throughout from all over the country. Our first game was against Leicester Minotaurs 3rds, who seemed like the ones to beat on the day and that is exactly what we did with some very close games leading up to a 8-4 win.

We began to get into our stride, winning the second game against Hertfordshire Stags 10-2 and following this up with an 11-1 win against Colchester Eagles. Comfortably coming out of the group stages on top, we continued our solid form throughout with everyone on the Falcons team playing to the best of their ability.

The top two teams proceeded into the quarter-finals where we were met by Sheffield Silver Arrows, another new opponent. We were now getting into our stride, putting a 6-0 win on the scoreboard.

Next up was the semi-final against Lincoln Royals 2nds, who were a very athletic side but our tactical game play allowed us to comfortably win 8-0.

It was incredible to be in another tournament final after playing some very tough teams, but we kept our composure and faced off against MMU (Manchester Metropolitan University) in the last game of the day. It was very close throughout, with MMU catching left, right, and centre, yet despite this, our throwing had improved massively over the course of the tournament. The game sadly ended 4-8 to MMU, which was at first disappointing, but remembering that it is our first year as a society, we were pleased with the day’s outcome and proud to be presented with medals once more.

The whole team played extremely well all day and we are ready to turn some more heads at the next tournament. Thank you to all at FXU Dodgeball, we have a fantastic club and it’s only possible to put together teams for tournaments when you have committed and passionate players who turn up every week for training.
