Strong performances by the FXU Gymnastics Club and Falmouth Falcons Dodgeball team were the highlights of another busy week for FXU sport.
The FXU Gymnastics Club headed to Aldershot for the BUCS Championships. Competing on both floor and vault, FXU’s male gymnasts all finished in the top 30 overall out of 57 competitors.
Sam Dolby placed an incredible 4th overall after finishing in 5th place on vault and 4th on floor! Joining him in the men’s category were Amid Ojubanire (16th), Andrew Kimble (23rd) and Louis Driver (28th).
In the women’s competition, which involved a massive 81 competitors, Dani Lynton finished 32nd overall in the Level 3 category, while at Level 4, Eleanor Burton claimed 21st position with an equally strong performance!
In the other big tournament of the week, the Falmouth Falcons Dodgeball team reached the final in only their second ever competition! The team bested all of their opponents with strong performances throughout the day before finally coming unstuck against Manchester Met in the final match of the West Midlands tournament.

In Badminton, the CSM Ladies team dug deep to secure promotion to the First Division! An away draw and home victory against First Edition B was enough for the squad, made up of Amy Cox, YinLing Tan, Alexandria Bell, Jess Cammack, and Ellie Kelsall, to turn promotion dreams into reality!
The CSM Mens A team (Sean Havis, Alex Shaw, Matt LIttleales, and debutant Lewis Ransom) also needed victory against First Edition B to secure promotion. A series of close games saw CSM fall 4-2 to their opponents this week, but a win against Mounts Bay C at home this Wednesday will be enough to see the A team make the climb to the First Division next season.
It was a busy weekend for some of the less traditional FXU sports teams! The Tremough Quidditch Club sent their competitive team, the Falmouth Falcons, to face Bristol in their South West League match. Despite a 120*-40 loss on the day, a win against Exeter in their next match will see the Falcons finish second in their league.
CSM Shinty faced some tough opposition over the weekend as the SW Shinty League came to a close. CSM Gold lost 4-0 to Mylor Cons, while CSM Blue were defeated 8-0 by reigning champions Mabe.
The FXU Tridents American Football team lost 34-0 in a controversial friendly match again Marjon. It was a big ask for the Tridents, made up of mostly Freshers, as they faced a team coached by former NCAA players and NFL coaches, with some even refereeing the match!
Finally, the more regular FXU clubs had mixed success in their respective leagues this week.
While the CSM Men’s Hockey team lost 2-0 to league leaders Chard, the Women’s team found more success with a 4-0 victory against Plymouth Valley.
In Rugby, Robin Ellis-Cockcroft scored CSM’s only try as they were defeated 24-5 by Roseland. They currently sit in 7th place in the Tribute Cornwall 1 League.
The FXU Men’s Volleyball team faced Oxford in the National Trophy, but a 3-0 loss to an experienced side saw them eliminated from the competition. Despite the defeat, FXU remain among the Top 16 for university teams in the UK!
