We had an early start to make the trip to Bristol for the South West tournament, our first ever tournament as a new club set up this year. We took a strong team of eight players to the tournament and for five of the players it was their first ever dodgeball competition, having never played before coming to university.

The tournament was made up of eight teams, split into two groups of four, with a mix of teams from around the country and a couple from Wales. Our first game in the group stages saw us come up against Bath Spartans 2nds, where we got off to a flying start with a convincing 9-1 win. Our second game of the group stages was against MK Cyclones, who proved to be a much tougher opposition, and we had to settle for a 5-5 draw. In the final game of the group stages we continued our good form against a strong Cardiff Dragons 2nds winning 7-3, resulting in us topping our group.

The top two teams from both groups went through to the semi-finals, where Leicester Minotaurs 3rds awaited us. A convincing 9-3 win saw us reach the final of our first ever tournament. This gave us a huge confident boost; we were guaranteed our first silverware and would be happy with however the final ended.

Joining us in the final was our toughest team to date MK Cyclones, having drew with them in the group stages it was now time to settle it once and for all. We went into the game full of determination and confidence, we had learnt a lot from when we played them earlier in the tournament and used this to our advantage, controlling the game from start to finish. Playing our best dodgeball of the tournament, we dispatched MK Cyclones in emphatic style with a convincing 8-0 win.

We couldn’t be happier with how our first tournament went and can’t wait for the next one. A huge congratulations to the team who were brilliant throughout.

Thank you to all at FXU Dodgeball, we have a fantastic club and it’s only possible to put together teams for tournaments when you have committed and passionate players who turn up every week for training. We are always happy to welcome new members. Come along to training from 7:30pm – 9pm every Thursday in the Penryn Campus Sports Centre and give dodgeball a try with the first session free.

We are currently searching for a sponsor for a new tournament kit and to help the continued development of the club. If interested, please contact FXU Dodgeball President Ryan Borley at rb186098@falmouth.ac.uk.
