On Thursday 25 February, students from both Falmouth and University of Exeter Penryn Campus’s Oxfam Society will be hosting a live music event and interactive art display in aid of Oxfam’s Syria Crisis Appeal. The night starts at 19:00, running through until 11:00, held at the Fish Factory Arts Space, Falmouth.
The evening promises a vibrant line-up of local musicians, including Ella Squirrell, Jack Fordham & band, Empire, Alive, as well as individual members of The Shipping Forecast. Each artist will be showcasing a truly exciting array of styles that range from dream-pop, to soulful ambient music, to experimental rock. Alongside the music, there will be a unique gallery space that will feature prints, projections and photographs from Oran Perrett, Aimee Barkany, Rob Ive, Rob Davis & George Stone. An immersive light display and visual element will accompany the gallery space throughout the night. The work on display in the gallery section will all be available to buy so please do remember to bring some change with you! This collaborative event celebrating the many mediums of art is open to all ages and is free entry with any donations welcome and greatly appreciated.
About Oxfam’s Syria Crisis Appeal
Oxfam was established as a charity dedicated to providing overseas humanitarian and disaster relief to those in need. The conflict in Syria has been ongoing since March 2011, causing millions of residents to flee their homes into other parts of Syria or neighbouring countries. Oxfam has been at the forefront of providing relief and so far, has managed to support over one million people forced to leave their homes by providing food, sanitary services, clean water and shelter. However, the conflict is far from over, and millions of refugees in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon are desperately still in need of humanitarian support. The Syria Crisis Appeal was established by Oxfam to raise awareness of the current situation in Syria, in addition to appealing for donations which are used towards supplying essential relief in these war-torn areas.
About Oxfam Falmouth
Oxfam Falmouth is a society run by students at the Falmouth and Exeter campuses, supporting Oxfam by campaigning and fundraising around their central campaigns, such as the Syria Appeal. Our annual fundraising & music event, Oxjam, has been hugely successful in the past and with support from the local community we hope to make the event this year even bigger and better! Also, for this year the music will also be coupled with an art display to showcase the creative talent from students on the campuses. It will be a fantastic night, so please come along and support our local students, all whilst raising money for a good cause. All proceeds from the night will go directly to Oxfam’s Syria Appeal.
