It’s been a great last week before Christmas, with solid wins for CSM Football Club and CSM Ladies Hockey, and amazing results for FXU Tang Soo Do and FXU Gymnastics in their competitions. There were also some outstanding performances from CSM Badminton and CSM Shinty as they faced tough competition in their last week.
CSM Football Club
CSM FC 3 – 2 Stithians
Two long-ball attacks were clinically executed by Stithians as CSM faced them in a tough match this week. Despite CSM having dominated possession they found themselves 2-0 down with fifteen minutes of the first half remaining.
With a drive to win, the team saw an amazing second half with three textbook passing goals; the final one started and finished by Benhail Evenezer-Gold, earning him man of the match for his forays down the left-hand-side from full back. CSM completed the turnaround before the 45-minute mark, and their domination on pitch left Stithians with a relatively subdued, goalless second half meaning that CSM are going into the Christmas break unbeaten in the league.
FXU Tang Soo Do
Several members of the FXU Tang Soo Do martial arts society joined the ISK Club in Redruth on Sunday 10th for a grading. The following students passed: Alistair Rankine & Laura Williams – 3rd Gup, Patrik Sophanset – 4th Gup, Harriet Pascoe & Matthew Wall – 7th Gup, Cheyenne O’Leary – 8th Gup, Adrian Trevelyan, Lisa Soderstrom, Louis Foy, Chloe Gelacio – 9th Gup.
Head of the UK Tang Soo Do Federation, Grand Master Kumar, had hoped to be in attendance to present Master James, head of ISK, with his 6th Dan certificate, but was sadly unable to due to the snow grounding his flight.
Congratulations to everyone who passed, and well done for everyone’s hard work!
The CSM Badminton mixed team played against level competition, the 1st Edition team, and the team powered through long and demanding games that all had incredibly close scores but overall yielded an 8-1 defeat. After lots of practice with new members, the team have demonstrated a great improvement over first term and have had a good-run in the league so far!
FXU Gymnastics Club
“A team of FXU Gymnasts competed at the Bath beginner-novice-intermediate open competition this weekend. For most it was their first ever competition and everyone performed their routines with style.
“Beginner: Eleanor was our only competitor at this level and she did an amazing job winning first on all pieces and becoming the overall women’s beginner champion.
“Novice: Charlotte showed off a very well performed bridge in her floor routine, staying focused to deliver an overall great routine against some tough competition.
“Intermediate: Coach Allanah was our only female competitor at this level and she delivered an outstanding performance, in particular her awesome handspring vaults.
“Our Men’s President Cai, Rob, Adam, Stefan, Alex Wilson and Coach Alex Williams all competed at the intermediate level and did a great job. Stefan managed to take home first place with the best floor routine he could have done! Rob also achieved great results, coming first on vault and third on second on trampette. Coach Alex came second on trampette and took the overall silver medal. All the boys also managed to perform a great handspring vault too!”

CSM Shinty Club put up a brave fight against a Monstantine side augmented with several Devon Shinty players as well as a former England Shinty captain, but succumbed to a 2-0 defeat. This is however still a vast improvement on the 5-1 and 6-1 defeats last year!
CSM Ladies Hockey
The Ladies First Team gave a great performance and won 3-1 against Caradon 2nds this week, meaning that the team have moved up to third in the league.
“The Falmouth Falcons had two hard games in their third meet within the university South West league against Plymouth University and Portsmouth 1st.
“We went to Bristol with a strong team to first face off against Plymouth University, beating them 23-9. The Falcons played hard and controlled the game throughout with some precise throwing and impressive dodging.
“Our second game was against Portsmouth 1st where we went out strong, leading at half time. Yet our opposition came back and we were just able to hold them off to finish 15-13, another great win for the Falcons!
“This solidified our 2nd place position in the league at the half way point with everyone playing exceptionally well throughout. Special mention goes to Sav, our player of the day as he made some insane catchers and kept his cool under pressure. Well done to everyone who played and we can’t wait to get back on court in the new year!”
