Falmouth Falcons players, Owain Hughes and Nick Cullis, have both been accepted into the Wales National Dodgeball Team.
This news comes after the pair attended trials on 14 January, in which more than 30 people attended.
Owain and Nick are members of Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union’s (FXU) Dodgeball team, which has competed to great success in recent months.
Ryan Borley, FXU Dodgeball Vice-President: “Owain and Nick both began playing dodgeball after joining the university club in their first year as students. Over the past two years I have watched them grow and develop into fantastic dodgeball players. Their passion for dodgeball and natural sporting talent has seen them become key players in the club’s first season competing in the South West University League. Everyone at the club is so proud of both of them and wishes them the best of luck with the Wales National Team, they truly deserve it.”
Owain Hughes: “It’s a real privilege to be given the opportunity to represent my country doing something that I love – and it gives me a great excuse to play even more dodgeball.”
Nick Cullis: “It’s always been a dream to play for Wales and it couldn’t have been for a sport I enjoy playing more. This is a great opportunity which I feel honoured to have been chosen for.”
Jamal Clarke, FXU President Student Experience: “This is great news and evidence that sport in Cornwall is alive and should not be neglected. This is also amazing, as our Dodgeball team are less than two years old and they have been one of our most successful clubs, with a very high win percentage. As a keen sports enthusiast, it feels great to have national and international sportspeople at FXU, so I wish them all the best!”
