“FXU Athletics took a record fourteen members to the 2nd Westward League Cross Country Race of the season, at Newquay on Sunday 12th November.

“Three of the club’s committee members (XC Captains Jordan Clay & Sophie Lloyd and Vice President Tom Newman) qualified to represent Cornwall (Senior Mens, Senior Womens and Mens Under-20s) in the 2018 South West Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships.

“Starting with the Men’s team, Captain Clay lead by example with a time of 29:06 in the 8.5km race, finishing 10th overall. First year William Dax, racing for Tavistock, clocked an impressive 30:56 finishing 33rd. Tom Newman looks to be getting back to last year’s times finishing 55th with 32:43. Nathan Elemen ran strong at 68th, clocking 33:24 with Matt Bridges close behind in 70th, 9 seconds behind. Half-marathon runner Kallum Wright propped up in 93rd with a time of 35:07, closely followed by Men’s Track Captain Giuliano Formisano in 95th, 33 seconds behind. “On to the Women’s race, Captain Sophie Lloyd looks to have also bounced back from injury woes to finish in 13th place in the SW race, clocking a time of 21:02. Louise Greenwell continues to impress with a time of 21:43, finishing 26th. Emma Barraclough tried out her first race and came 45th with a time of 23:09.
